We get asked a lot of questions about a lot of things. Here I'll post some very important information, as well as my opinion on products.
- Permits: Should I get a permit? - The answer is yes, you should get a permit whenever it is required. Yes, they are going to raise your taxes, but the permit offers protection for both you and the contractor. PLUS its the LAW.
- Roofing: Should I remove my roof even if it is only 1 layer? Yes, you should. It allows you to see if there is any sheathing damage from leaks, dry rotting, insects, rodents, and any other types of damage. Why put a 30 year roof on a roof deck that might only last 10 years?
- Why does American Pride offer a 30 year workmanship roof warranty? Well, it's because we are confident in our ability to perform our installations at the highest level.
- Bathrooms: Why does American Pride not offer to supply tubs, tiles and fixtures? These are design items that the customer should pick out on their own. YOU will save money buying them online (see our links) and having them delivered.
- Paints: Aren't all paints equal? No they aren't. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams offer the best paint for the money. Like anything else, quality stands out. Both if its bad or if its good.
- Decking: Can I replace the deck and railing on an existing deck? No. It is not good practice to install a new composite deck onto an existing frame. The only time this should be done is if the frame is less than 5 years old. Deck frames that were made from wolmanized, or CCA, or ACQ have a limited lifespan. Why would anyone want to spend the money on a composite decking system and install it on a frame that will not last the life of the decking.
- Windows: How come after XXX installed my new replacement windows do I still feel a draft? Easy, bad installation techniques. American Pride offers a 3 seal window when we install it. We know that our windows get the best installation possible. Many companies, even larger window companies rely on the installation going very fast. Therefore a lot of things get over looked, and many short cuts are taken.
- Going green or eco friendly: What steps do you take to be an eco-friendly contractor? While there is no certification, per se, there are things that contractors can be aware of. Recommend companies that are eco-friendly themselves. For example, Timbertech cuts down no trees while making their decking, they purchase saw dust and shavings from other facilities. When we tear down a shed, our dump separates the wood to be used for mulch.
